K.Sowjanya, class 9, Sri Saraswathi Shishumandir, Palvancha, Telangana got the First prize in Jnana Vijnana mela (All India Science Fair) conducted by Vidya Bharathi at Cuttack, Odisha from 17th to 20th Nov- 2018. She got the first prize at District, Zonal, State and South Central India levels to reach All India level.

She presented models based on Waste material. With the help of teachers, she prepared around 75 different items with waste material such as news papers, hard sheets, used tooth brushes, injection bottles, paint buckets, used car tyres, garlic peal, used sarees, gunny bags, waste thermocol sheet, sea shells, coconut shell, pista shells, groundnut shells, used bangles, coconut thread, country twine etc.

She hails from farmer’s family of Iravendi, a remote village near Bhadrachalam. Her parents are illiterates. She is studying in this school from class 5.
